Wildwood Dance and Arts is pleased to announce that we are starting an all Hip Hop Performance Troupe and Competition Team. The teams will be led by Nicholas Gates . Auditions will be held annual in May. Our first auditions are scheduled for May 2, 2008- at 7pm. Ages 7yr-12yrs, and 13yrs+. Please read over the Training and Performance Contract. The goal of this hip hop program is to allow students an opportunity to perform in public venues and compete in nurturing environments that not only offers a place to grow as a dancer/performer and build self-esteem, but focuses on professionalism and technique. They will be training throughout the year to hone their skills unique to hip hop performance. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of instruction, and keep our dancers enjoying this wonderful form of expression. Requirements and Contract

Usually the first or second week of June and located at the Chesterfield Community Theatre (West County YMCA). They will perform a minimum of 1 routine per show per team/group, with a minimum of 5-6 shows. Each show seat 370 people. Competition Outline: Since this is a new program at Wildwood Dance and Arts we are open to discuss some competition location requests. The competitions/workshops that the teams will attend are all dance centered and have a significant, if not heavy, involvement in hip hop technique. Competitions would likely be scheduled from October 2008 through April 2009. Please note that we will not take any team to a competition if we feel they are not ready to perform. It is our goal however to be able to attend at least two competitions our first year. We are also looking into a few workshops that will help expose the dancers to other professionals, and continue their training outside the studio as well. We hesitate to lock down some of these as of yet, but will do so soon after forming the teams and having a parent meeting to discuss goals for this first year. Here is a list of some of the competitions in consideration: Showstopper: One of the largest overall dance competitions in the nation. Please see info online for rules, and fees. The St. Louis Regional competition is usually first weekend of April. http://www.showstopperonline.com/ Dance America/Dance Olympus: Dance competition. St. Louis the Second week of April usually. This year it is held at the Double Tree in Chesterfield. West Coast Dance Explosion: Dance Competition. In Chicago in Jan, and we got word that they might be coming to St. Louis this next year. In the process of contacting someone at the organization. Looks like they will be held near the end of July in Las Vegas. Kaba Modern recently seen on America’s Best Dance Crew (top 3) was a 2007 World Campion of this competition. http://www.hiphopinternational.com/ (need to check into more) Other Requirements: Attendance: Attendance at scheduled rehearsals is required by all dancers. Absences can make it difficult on the choreographer and dancers to rehearse choreography and staging. Absences must be discussed in advance and must be submitted in writing. Students who become ill must have a parent call before rehearsal to be excused. Absence from the last class prior to a performance may prevent a dancer from performing. This is at the discretion of the director. *Three unexcused absences may lead to the removal from the team. Attire: Students are required to wear appropriate clothing to rehearsal class. CLEAN TENNIS SHOES are required for practice in the studio. Dirt can grind into the floors and cause serious expensive damage. Clothing that is comfortable to dance in, and hip hop style encouraged for feel and mood. Get used to performing in similar clothing. Hats permitted. Students not prepared with appropriate clothing may be asked not to participate and will result in an unexcused absence. We will be ordering jackets soon after team is formed. (Fee TBA- goal is @$60) (Team T-shirts likely @ $20) Performances/Competition: Every performance/competition is required unless excused in advance. Absences must be submitted in writing as soon as possible. A calendar will be given and updated often. We will compete at minimum twice per year, and attend at those workshops in conjunction with competition. Performance troupe is required to perform in a minimum of two public venues, and possibly “showcase” platforms at convention locations. Costs: Costs will be kept as low as possible, but extra expenses will be incurred throughout the year and can include costumes, transportation, entrance fees, coaching fees, choreography fees, etc. Notice will be given in advance when new expenses present themselves. Tuition for classes and rehearsals is due by the 1st of each month. Failure to pay may result in removal from the teams/performance troupe. Conduct: Positive attitudes are encouraged and poor attitudes are not tolerated. A dancer may be suspended from participation if their conduct becomes a distraction to their fellow team members and teachers. One warning will be given to the dancer and the parent before suspension. Must have the following forms on file: 1) Registration Form 2) Health Form 3) Liability Waiver 4) Signed Contract I have read and understand the policies and guidelines laid out in the Participation Contract.
