Tap dancing, originally developed in the United States, combines the rhythmic foot stomping of African dances with the step dances of Irish settlers. Tap Instructors at Wildwood Dance & Arts believe in mastering the basics of tap dancing and incorporating elements of Broadway style tap, rhythm tap, and hoofing as the student progresses. Important and influential tappers throughout history include: Bill Robinson, Ann Miller, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Gregory Hines, and Savion Glover.

All tap classes will begin with a warm-up, either center or at the barre, followed by center work, across the floor, and short combinations or choreography. Recitals routines will be started after the Winter Break.

Pre-Tap: Designed for ages 5-7 years old. Students will learn the basics of tap including how to isolate the foot, weight changes, basic rhythms and musicality, and fundamental tap steps (basic one and two sound movements, heel/toe, toe/heel, shuffle, and flap). Technique will be introduced through fun and interesting exercises while emphasizing rhythm, sound, and terminology. This class may be repeated for 2 years.
